Matthew Weait is Professor of Law and Policy and Pro-Vice-Master (Academic Partnerships) at Birkbeck, University of London. His research centres on the impact of law on HIV prevention and PLHIV, and he has published widely in this area. In addition to his academic interests, Matthew has worked extensively in policy development nationally, regionally and internationally.
He has been as a consultant with UNAIDS and the WHO, assisting with their work on the criminalisation of HIV. He is an External Advisory Member of the European AIDS Treatment Group and member of Track D of the Scientific Programme Committee for AIDS 2014.
He was a member of the Technical Advisory Group for the Global Commission on HIV and the Law and co-ordinates a free legal advice and assistance service at River House, a community service organisation for PLHIV in London.
