Peter Higgs has a background in community development and has worked with marginalised populations in Melbourne, Sydney, Vietnam, Indonesia and China for 20 years.
Peter completed an MA in Asian and International Studies at Victoria University where he studied the footpath economy of street traders in Hanoi. His field-based research has been focused on risk and people who inject drugs and he did his PhD with Prof Margaret Hellard at the Burnet Institute.
He is currently an early career research fellow at the National Drug Research Institute, Curtin University where his qualitative research is focused on understanding the protective factors for hepatitis C transmission among a cohort of long-term injectors in Melbourne. He has just finished his term on the board of Hepatitis Victoria and was the president for the last 5 years.
